John H. Miller

John H. Miller, 65, of Polson, MT and recently Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on march 14, 2022. He was born in April of 1956 in Dayton, Ohio, to Charles Miller and Betty Thorpe (to later marry Cleao Thomas). At the young age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his enlistment his duty stations included Camp Pendleton in California, Marine Barracks in Guam and Kinawa, Japan. He Followed this service by joining the Army Reserves. After his dedicated service to the United States, he continued his passion for serving and became a leader for the Boy Scouts of America. This leadership lasted for over 30 years. He also became a life member for both the Marine Corps League and the American Legion. He and his wife Debra along with their two children moved to Montana in 1995. While in Polson; he served two terms as the Exalted Ruler for the Mission Valley Elks Lodge continuing service to the Mission Valley and its youth. He also started the Hellroaring Detachment to the Marine Corps League in 2000. At the time of his passing, he was commandant of Detachment. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his family, Veteran's and America's youth. John is preceded in death by his parents Charles Miller, Betty Thomas and Cleao Thomas; sister Dorothy Trotter; brother Rex Miller; and granddaughter Blakely Sue Miller. Survivors include his wife Debra Miller; son Kristofer Edwards (Natalie) and granddaughter Sadie; son Keith Miller (Chantel) and granddaughters Caitlynn and Abbi; daughter Malisa Hunt (Terry) and grandsons Braydon and Braxton; his brothers Don Miller and Bradley Thomas; sister Jamey Yeldig as well as numerous friends and colleagues. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the LDS church is Polson, MT. Graveside Military Honors at Lakeview Cemetery will be held at 12;00p.m. following the service. There will also be a social gathering back at the LDS church following the graveside service for anyone who wants to attend. In lieu of flowers and gifts; Debra s requesting that donations be made to the Fisher House at www.fisherhouse.org to help Military Families.




Joyce Ann "Melton" Powell

Joyce Powell age 90, of Amargosa Valley, Nevada passed away March 8th, 2022 at her home. Joyce was born Sept. 15, 1931 in Huntsville, Alabama to George Washington Melton and Josie F. "Anderson" Melton. They have preceded her in death, as well as her husband Loy Thurman Powell and brother-in-law Fredrick P. Holloway. Joyce graduated from Butler High School in 1952, then moved from Huntsville, Alabama to Dallas, Texas. She worked at Neiman Marcus and The First National Bank of Dallas, as an accountant. Later in life, she worked for Sherwood Medical in Commerce, Texas. In 1991 Joyce and the love of her life her husband, moved to Amargosa Valley, Nevada after they retired. She loved making quilts and made one for each of her children, grand children, and great grand children. She was loving and caring to her family, she will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Michael Powell and wife Marsha of Sulphur Springs TX, Pam Collard of Cooper TX, Wes Powell of Gober TX, Clifford Powell and wife Karrie of Amargosa Valley NV, and Gary Powell of Greenville TX. Grandchildren include, Stephanie Thornton, Christopher Collard and wife Candace, and Brittany Collard. Great grandchildren, Bailey Thornton, Chance Thornton, Hayden Collard, Shelby Collard, Tori Collard, Kaleb Tubb, Anizlee Collard, Konnor Tubb and Charlotte Tubb. Joyce's sisters, Sarah Ruth Buettner of Scottsboro, Alabama and Betty Jean Holloway of Commerce TX. Nieces and nephews, Priscilla Chaney, Penny Belcher Muecke, Vicki Holloway, and Paul Holloway. With many more family members on the Powell side of the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Amargosa Christian Fellowship Church April 2nd, 2022 at 11:00 am. Pastor James Attebury will be presiding over the service, with the eulogy being given by Clifford Powell. A potluck meal will follow.
